Its location couldn't be more chic, amongst a cluster of Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Cartier boutiques where bourgeois and proletariat Germans come out for 5-figure summer shopping sprees ala Karl Lagerfeld. Nearby, dressy Germans in perfectly pressed Joop arrive to Greta's Rauchfang and its indoor-outdoor dinning room of German glitterati and be-seen socialites. A decor of African prints and striped banquettes offsets a German-heavy menu of steaks, sausages and schnitzels in a cozy cottage setting. Even better is the afternoon happy hour outside in the eclectic farm-style garden where Dom and Cristal are available by the magnu.
The Food
This isn’t your usual floral-clad upscale German dining room, albeit boasts one of the best address in the entire village. An all-day menu includes heavy post-beach lunches and light dinners that are typical of the German beach dining scene. Plates of classic wurst, local white fish, herring specials and sweet local shrimp are ordered by the plate-full by a crowd of extended families and handsome couples on vacation from Hamburg and beyond. Be sure to save room for dessert, a collection of homemade cakes and tortes that are hearty enough as a meal all on their own.
